Every Square Wave is unique in that it is assembled by hand with care and precision in order to create the sculpture’s stunning movements and visual effects.

Everything matters, including the packaging! Square Wave is made of steel and is treated for both indoor and outdoor environments. You can hang it from the old oak tree in the garden or use it as a wind chime by the porch, Square Wave is made to last. Dimensions are: 9,8 x 9,8 in (25 x 25 cm). You can admire it In a statuesque standing position, or hang it from the ceiling as a revolving sculpture. You can also hang it above your child’s crib to use as a mobile, its tranquil ballet of soft feather-like motions could put even the most energetic of babies to sleep. Square Wave is the brainchild of Ivan Black, a British sculptor, engineering enthusiast and artist whose work has been celebrated and displayed at some of the most significant institutions in the world such as the Peggy Guggenheim Museum, Cass Foundation and Palmyra Sculpture Center. Ivan’s work is often deceivingly simple but moves in beautifully complex ways, evoking principles of physics and mathematics. Square Wave was born out of this drive to create educational, moving art, originating from a much larger sculpture whose construction process was extremely difficult to replicate, one of many reasons why we turned to hand made production in Italy.

Ivan Black (b. 1972) London, is an award winning British sculptor. He began making sculptures at an early age, motion quickly becoming central to his work, adding another dimension of complexity and interest to his experiments.Ivan Black's work uses a series of unique mechanisms to create moving sculptures. Energy is channelled into Black’s works through anything from the interaction of the viewer to the natural power of blowing wind and the targeted use of principles of gravity. This very Square Wave is now part of prestigious modern art Museums such as the MoMA in NY and Tokyo, as well as the MOCA Museum in Los Angeles

Each Square Wave comes in an elegant box, ideal for a perfect gift. It also comes with a hanging kit (we now also offer a dedicated magnetic stand sold separately). Each and every Square Wave is handmade in Italy, near Lake Como, by expert artisans, using exclusively high quality certified materials 100% sourced in Europe. Square Wave dimensions are: 9.8 Inches / 25cm x 9,8 Inches / 25cm and it weights 0.24 Pounds / 110 g. the main component is: S234JR pre-galvanized steel, the highest quality chrome plated steel or the best plating available for the model.
